Silicones

Silicones combine durability with resistance to heat, fire, chemicals and water, while also offering flexibility and electrical insulation.

Platinum catalysts are used in hydrosilylation, the reaction that links silicone molecules to create materials with precisely controlled properties. This process supports the manufacture of silicone rubbers, sealants, coatings and other specialised products used in the automotive, medical, dental, electronics and paper industries.

Because platinum acts as a catalyst, a small quantity can enable the reaction without being consumed by it.
