Prior to joining the precessor of Valterra Platinum, Anglo American, Hilton worked at De Beers for 17 years in roles across the mining value chain in processing, strategy, and mineral resource management including time as the technical assistant to the CEO of De Beers.  

Hilton joined Anglo American in 2011 as Head of Precious Metals Marketing and in 2017 was promoted to Executive Head of PGM Marketing where he has been instrumental in leading the company’s journey from precious metals wholesaler to integrated miner-trader. In 2020 Hilton’s role was expanded to include responsibility for Anglo American’s marketing strategy across all its commodities.

In 2024, in line with the divestment Hilton relinquished his Anglo American responsibilities and took up the role of Executive head of Marketing at Anglo American Platinum - now Valterra Platinum - responsible for sales, trading and market development.

John serves as the Commercial Director for Johnson Matthey’s PGMs business. With many years of industry experience, he has held a range of senior commercial roles across JM, including several years as Managing Director of the Precious Metals Management business, overseeing Metals Trading, Sales, and Market Research. His career spans leadership positions in both the UK and the US.

He served as Chairman of the London Platinum and Palladium Market (LPPM) for four years beginning in February 2022, following three years on its Management Committee.

John currently holds commercial responsibility for five JM businesses, including Products, Refining, and Trading.

Steffen Metzger serves as CEO of Heraeus Precious Metals, with full P&L responsibility for a global business generating approximately €20 billion in revenue and employing around 3,000 people across 12 sites worldwide. Prior to this role, he was a member of the Group Management Committee of Heraeus Holding, where he was responsible for the Semiconductor & Electronics business platform, including investments, M&A, and strategic growth initiatives in the semiconductor ecosystem.

Before joining Heraeus, Steffen held several senior leadership positions at Infineon Technologies, including Senior Vice President and Business Line Head in the Industrial Power and Control Division. He also led Infineon’s global GaN Program, driving the strategy and development of innovative GaN-based technologies and overseeing the integration of International Rectifier’s GaN activities following the acquisition.

Steffen holds a PhD in mathematical physics from École Normale Supérieure, Pari,s and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich.
